Editing Tournaments
Learn how to edit tournament information, update settings, and manage tournament details after creation.
Accessing Tournament Edit
Method 1: Tournament Settings
- Navigate to your tournament
- Click "Settings" or "Edit Tournament"
- Edit form opens with current settings
Method 2: Tournament Management
- Go to Tournaments list
- Find your tournament
- Click "Edit" button
- Edit form opens
Editable Fields
Basic Information
You can edit:
- ✅ Tournament Name: Change display name
- ✅ Start Date: Update start date
- ✅ End Date: Update end date
- ✅ Region: Change tournament region
- ✅ Timezone: Update timezone
- ❌ Slug: Cannot be changed (create new tournament if needed)
Settings
You can update:
- ✅ Registration Settings: Open/close registration, deadline, max teams
- ✅ Rank Balance: Enable/disable, adjust requirements
- ✅ Riot Integration: Update integration settings
- ✅ Format Settings: Modify format configuration
Common Edits
Updating Tournament Name
- Go to tournament settings
- Find "Tournament Name" field
- Enter new name
- Click "Save"
- Name updates immediately
Extending Tournament Dates
- Go to tournament settings
- Find "End Date" field
- Select new end date
- Click "Save"
- Tournament duration extends
Note: Extending dates doesn't automatically reschedule matches. You may need to update match schedules separately.
Closing Registration
- Go to tournament settings
- Find "Registration" section
- Toggle "Registration Open" to off
- Click "Save"
- Registration closes immediately
Updating Registration Deadline
- Go to tournament settings
- Find "Registration Deadline" field
- Select new deadline date/time
- Click "Save"
- Deadline updates
Editing During Tournament
Safe Edits
These edits are safe during an active tournament:
- ✅ Name: Updating display name
- ✅ Description: Updating tournament description
- ✅ Settings: Updating non-critical settings
- ✅ Dates: Extending end date (if needed)
Careful Edits
Be careful when editing:
- ⚠️ Start Date: Changing start date may affect scheduled matches
- ⚠️ Registration: Closing registration affects team access
- ⚠️ Settings: Some setting changes may affect existing data
Avoid Editing
Avoid editing these during active tournament:
- ❌ Slug: Cannot be changed anyway
- ❌ Format: Major format changes can break matches
- ❌ Stages: Editing stages with matches can cause issues

Before Tournament Starts
- Review All Settings: Check everything before launch
- Test Registration: Verify registration works
- Confirm Dates: Ensure dates are correct
- Check Settings: Verify all settings are appropriate
During Tournament
- Minimal Changes: Only edit when necessary
- Communicate Changes: Inform teams of any changes
- Document Edits: Keep notes on what was changed
- Test After Edits: Verify changes work correctly
After Tournament
- Archive Settings: Keep final settings for reference
- Document Issues: Note any problems encountered
- Review Changes: Learn from what needed editing
- Update Templates: Use learnings for future tournaments
Editing Workflow
Step 1: Access Edit Form
- Navigate to tournament
- Click "Settings" or "Edit"
- Edit form opens
Step 2: Make Changes
- Find field you want to edit
- Update value
- Review other fields while you're there
- Make any additional changes
Step 3: Save Changes
- Review all changes
- Click "Save" or "Update Tournament"
- Wait for confirmation
- Changes apply immediately
Step 4: Verify Changes
- Check tournament page reflects changes
- Verify settings are correct
- Test any affected functionality
- Confirm changes work as expected
Common Edits
Changing Tournament Name
When: Rebranding, correcting name, updating for new season
Steps:
- Settings → Tournament Name
- Enter new name
- Save
Extending End Date
When: Tournament running longer than expected, adding extra matches
Steps:
- Settings → End Date
- Select new end date
- Save
- Update match schedules if needed
Closing Registration
When: Registration deadline reached, tournament full, registration period ended
Steps:
- Settings → Registration
- Toggle "Registration Open" off
- Save
Updating Max Teams
When: Want to allow more teams, reducing capacity
Steps:
- Settings → Registration
- Update "Max Teams" field
- Save
Troubleshooting
"Cannot edit tournament"
- Verify you have edit permissions
- Check tournament isn't locked
- Ensure you're accessing correct tournament
- Try refreshing the page
"Changes not saving"
- Check all required fields are filled
- Verify you have save permissions
- Ensure no validation errors
- Try saving again
"Settings not updating"
- Save changes and refresh page
- Check if changes require page reload
- Verify you're viewing updated tournament
- Clear browser cache if needed
