Pickleball Live Scorekeeping (Organizer Guide)

Use this page as a quick field guide for scorekeepers and tournament staff running pickleball matches live.

Before Match (2-3 minutes)

  1. Confirm tournament format is correct: singles or doubles.
  2. Open the scoring page for the match:
    • /<host-slug>/matches/<matchId>/score
  3. Verify both sides show the correct teams and player names.
  4. Confirm match settings (best-of, points to win, win by 2).
  5. Set the starting server in pre-match setup.
  6. In doubles, confirm server 1/server 2 alignment before starting.

During Match

  1. Tap the rally winner each point.
  2. Watch the SERVING indicator for correct serving side/slot.
  3. For ace flow:
    • Tap the serving player/side.
    • Choose Yes - rally if returned or No - ace if not returned.
  4. Use Undo immediately if a rally tap was wrong.
  5. Keep one scorekeeper as the source of truth for each match.

Between Games

  1. Confirm game winner and score before starting next game.
  2. Verify server/side setup shown by the app.
  3. If anything is wrong, fix with Undo before continuing.

End of Match (Critical)

  1. Confirm final scoreline and winning side.
  2. If the final rally was wrong, use Undo last rally from match-complete state.
  3. Click Save To Tournament once results are correct.
  4. Wait for success confirmation before leaving the page.

Quick Troubleshooting

Wrong rally was tapped

  • Use Undo immediately.

Final rally is wrong after match complete

  • Use Undo last rally, then re-enter correctly.

Scorekeeper cannot access scoring page

  • Confirm assignment/permissions for that match.

Match has no rally analytics afterward

  • Verify the match was finalized with Save To Tournament.

Older matches show partial player attribution

  • Expected for legacy rows created before player attribution fields were available.
  1. Open each match 2-3 minutes before start time.
  2. Run pre-match checks.
  3. Score live with one dedicated operator.
  4. Save immediately at match end.
  5. Spot-check the public match page every few matches.

Training Tips for New Scorekeepers

  • Prioritize accuracy over speed for game 1.
  • Use Undo confidently; small corrections are normal.
  • Do not close the tab before save confirmation appears.
