Overlay Control

Use the broadcast control board to manage overlay displays, highlight players, switch games, and control overlay features.

Control Board Overview

The broadcast control board provides:

  • Match Selection: Choose which match to display
  • Player Highlighting: Highlight specific players
  • Game Selection: Switch between games in a match
  • Custom Messages: Display custom text
  • Focus Modes: Change overlay focus
  • Real-Time Updates: Changes appear instantly

Accessing Control Board

Step 1: Navigate to Tournament

  1. Go to tournament page
  2. Click "Broadcast" tab
  3. Control board appears

Step 2: Select Match

  1. Find "Select Match" section
  2. Choose match from dropdown
  3. Match details load
  4. Overlay updates to show match

Match Selection

Selecting a Match

How to Select:

  1. Use match selector dropdown
  2. Browse available matches
  3. Select match to display
  4. Overlay updates automatically

Match Information

Displayed Information:

  • Match teams
  • Match status
  • Current game
  • Match score
  • Scheduled time

Player Highlighting

Highlighting Players

How to Highlight:

  1. Find player in player list
  2. Click player name or highlight button
  3. Player is highlighted in overlay
  4. Highlight effect appears

Highlight Features

Highlight Effects:

  • Visual Glow: Player card gets glow effect
  • Pulse Animation: Subtle pulse animation
  • Border Highlight: Highlighted border
  • Focus: Player becomes focus

Removing Highlight

How to Remove:

  1. Click highlighted player again
  2. Or click "Clear Highlight" button
  3. Highlight removed
  4. Overlay returns to normal

Game Selection

Switching Games

How to Switch:

  1. Find game selector buttons
  2. Click "Game 1", "Game 2", etc.
  3. Overlay updates to show selected game
  4. Statistics update for that game

Game Information

Shown Per Game:

  • Game number
  • Game status
  • Player statistics for that game
  • Game-specific data

Custom Messages

Adding Messages

How to Add:

  1. Find "Custom Message" section
  2. Enter message text
  3. Click "Display Message"
  4. Message appears on overlay

Message Features

Message Options:

  • Text: Custom message text
  • Duration: How long to display
  • Style: Message appearance
  • Position: Where to display

Removing Messages

How to Remove:

  1. Click "Clear Message" button
  2. Or enter empty message
  3. Message disappears
  4. Overlay returns to normal

Focus Modes

Available Modes

Focus Mode Options:

  • Overview: Show all players (default)
  • Player Focus: Focus on highlighted player
  • Team Focus: Focus on specific team
  • Comparison: Compare two players

Changing Focus

How to Change:

  1. Find "Focus Mode" selector
  2. Choose focus mode
  3. Overlay updates
  4. Display changes accordingly

Control Status

Take Control

Control Mechanism:

  • Take Control: Click to take control of overlay
  • Control Status: Shows who is controlling
  • Reset Control: Reset if needed
  • Multiple Users: Only one can control at a time

Control Indicators

Status Display:

  • Controlled By: Shows controlling user
  • Control Time: When control was taken
  • Status Badge: Visual indicator
  • Reset Option: Reset control if needed

Real-Time Updates

How Updates Work

Update Process:

  1. Make change in control board
  2. Change sent to server
  3. Overlay receives update
  4. Overlay updates instantly
  5. Visible in OBS immediately

Update Features

Update Characteristics:

  • Instant: Updates appear immediately
  • Synchronized: All viewers see same update
  • Reliable: Uses Supabase Realtime
  • Persistent: Changes persist

Best Practices

Before Streaming

  • Test Controls: Test all controls before stream
  • Familiarize: Learn control board features
  • Select Match: Choose match to display
  • Prepare: Have control board ready

During Streaming

  • Active Control: Use controls actively
  • Highlight Players: Highlight standout players
  • Switch Games: Update as games progress
  • Add Messages: Use messages for important info

Control Management

  • Take Control: Take control before stream
  • Monitor Status: Watch control status
  • Coordinate: Coordinate with team if multiple users
  • Reset if Needed: Reset control if issues

Common Issues

"Controls not working"

Problem: Control board not responding

Solutions:

  • Refresh the page
  • Check internet connection
  • Verify permissions
  • Take control if needed
  • Check browser console

"Overlay not updating"

Problem: Changes not appearing in overlay

Solutions:

  • Check overlay URL is correct
  • Verify real-time connection
  • Refresh browser source in OBS
  • Check control board status
  • Test with preview

"Cannot take control"

Problem: Unable to take control

Solutions:

  • Check permissions
  • Verify you have access
  • Try resetting control
  • Refresh page
  • Contact admin if needed
